About Rose Masterpol
Rose Masterpol was born in New York and lived in Los Angeles for 25 years until recently when she moved the Santa Fe, NM, the Land of Enchantment. She received a B.F.A. from the California Institute of the Arts. She has been exhibiting regularly throughout California and the American (and Mexican) west since the 1990s, including one-person shows in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. Since her student days Masterpol has embraced a demanding, emphatically expressive approach to non-objective painting. She employs the power of gesture, color and line, allowing images to emerge and reveal themselves. Through a process of free association, Masterpol unravels what can be called an abstract portrait of the moment, full of unexpected juxtaposition. She builds and layers her painting, laying the groundwork, superimposing a framework, and ultimately realizing a depth of field. This structure provides a hierarchy of form at the same time as it maintains a dream-like quality.
