About Tomas Nemec
Tomas Nemec is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, from the studio of Michael Rittstein. Nemec’s work is marked by characteristic painting gestures, which spring up from the dialogue of his own painter’s vision and the history of painting art. A fascination with the iconic character Edith Piaf on the one hand and a diary of notes of everyday scenes on the other bear signs of this confrontation. The adored Piaf is depicted with great theatricality, whereas objects of everyday use such as a plate or a notebook, spring up from the strongly spontaneous pictorial symbols. In his pictures he expresses a longing to possess ‘purely that to which we have strength, an almost fateful relationship. It is not necessary here to think about a theme – the painter is freely inspired by the painted immediate reality, as well as photography or his own imagination. The pictures of Tomas Nemec in a natural way blend his personal history and simply openly and without correction recall in places a little exalted but nevertheless authentic story.’ (Michal Pechoucek).
